‘No true Scotsman …’ : the rise of the Leftards

Not to be outdone by the Liberal Party and the DLP, the Leftards, having seen the fun had at our inaugural gala awards night, also want a slice of the action. And so, they’ve put Australia Institute resident Richard Denniss forward as an entrant for the Tony Abbott Memorial ‘No True Scotsman …’ award for 2015.

Richard made his move in the Australian Financial Review of January 13 with this competitive entry:

Governments do think private schools are special and taxpayers already provide generous support to them. A genuine free marketeer who thought that private schools were special wouldn’t argue that they should be excluded from the GST, they would argue that specific grants to private schools would be increased.

Would they?? I suppose we could then identify any other type of free-marketeer who argued against this proposition as being a ‘bogus free marketeer’.

Just quietly, I can’t make head nor tail of Denniss’ argument. But who cares? He was published in Australia’s principle financial newspaper, so he must be making sense to someone out there. Let me know if you meet her.
